Women in TERM Networking Event: Strategies for Negotiating

The objective of this workshop is to disseminate and discuss strategies and best practices for negotiating, from academic and industry leaders in TERMIS. Though open to all TERMIS attendees, this event will examine pitfalls and challenges that women in particular often face in negotiating, and how these can be avoided. Disparities in salaries and professional advancement between men and women have been attributed in part to differences in negotiating skills/strategies and implicit biases against women during the negotiating process. By building awareness of these issues and sharing best practices we hope to provide tools to women in TERM for more effectively negotiating. To accomplish this, we will assemble a panel of women with a breadth of experiences in academic research, academic administration, entrepreneurship, and industry to describe negotiating pitfalls and best practices.
