TERMIS-Americas Thematic Working Interest Groups (TWIGs)

The objectives of the TWIGs are:

  1. to give all members of TERMIS-AM an opportunity to participate more directly in the life of the society
  2. to provide support for programming in specific domains . this is important as the society grows in numbers of members and breadth of topics
  3. to provide an opportunity to learn the workings of a professional society with the goal of readying talented, motivated individuals for leadership roles in TERMIS-AM and TERMIS International
  4. to address new and emerging areas impacting tissue engineering and provide a platform to introduce these areas into our meeting

The Open Call for Visioning Theme Submissions form is brief and designed to be a two-page submission that identifies broad research themes from engineering stakeholders in academia, industry, non-profit, and government sectors.Below is a brief introduction to ERVA for your use in member communications and on social media:

Calling all engineers: Submit your Visioning Theme Ideas to the Engineering Research Visioning Alliance. The Engineering Research Visioning Alliance (ERVA) is an NSF-funded, five-year effort to identify and develop bold and transformative new engineering research directions and to catalyze the engineering community's pursuit of innovative, high-impact research that benefits society. TERMIS is an ERVA Affiliate Partner and supports this mission.

ERVA is selecting key research themes for visioning and would like to hear your ideas! Please answer the call for visioning theme submissions and forward the link to engineering researchers and scientists you know, as well as faculty, grad students, and other stakeholders interested in the future of engineering research.

Ideas submitted by January 26, 2023 will receive full consideration.

Staying connected in the tissue engineering community

VIRTUAL WEBINAR SERIES
The TERMIS-AM Membership Committee has formulated a list of webinars being conducted in the region.

Communication and connectivity within the tissue engineering community are critical objectives of TERMIS. Staying connected and up to date with research in the field is more important now than ever before. In addition to bringing you TERMIS chapter meetings, World Congress, and TWIG seminars, we have curated a list of recurring virtual webinar series from other institutions in the region in diverse topics relevant to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. If you are hosting a recurring virtual seminar series that you would like to add to the list, please contact matthew.wolf@nih.gov.

Standards Coordinating Body

Hello Everyone,

The Standards Coordinating Body is seeking subject matter experts from the tissue engineering, cell and gene therapy, and bioprocessing/biomanufacturing sectors to contribute to the update of ASTM F2312-11: Standard Terminology Relating to Tissue Engineered Medical Products.

This indispensable document that standardizes communications across related bio-sectors has not been updated since 2011. Many essential terms that have increased in use and significance to the field in the past decade have yet to be added to the standard, and others should be modified to reflect their current usage. These updates, or lack thereof, to standardized terms and definitions could impact a product's classification, and consequently determine whether or not it qualifies for certain expedited regulatory pathways.

With that, I encourage anyone interested to email czander@regenmedscb.org to be added to the working group.

Best,
Katie Zander
